The Underground Arts Society opened its doors 6 yrears ago in hopes of bringing a venue that promotes novice and seasoned artists to the community. We are a non-profit organization for the artists and by the artists. The Gallery at the End of the World realizes the difficulties artists today face in trying to secure a gallery exhibit. We open our doors to a plethora of talent and created a melting pot for all those who have the desire to further their en devours in the arts. We don’t curate shows, and feel that this allows our exhibits to flow from a more natural base, the artists themselves. The gallery itself is an evolving installation conforming to meet our needs for showing art.

Pasadena, Ca – Melting Pot Food Tour announces the launch of Pasadena’s first and only walking taste tour featuring a diverse array of culinary treasures.  Running every Saturday and Sunday, the new summer three hour walking tour illuminates the ethnic eateries of Old Pasadena aspiring to place the City of Roses on the map as a noteworthy culinary destination in its own right.  Lisa and Diane Scalia, co-founders of Melting Pot Food Tours entertain with historic and colorful stories of Pasadena’s intriguing past while guests visit spectacular ethnic eateries where they will indulge in multiple tastings of world cuisines.

“The new Melting Pot Food Tour of Old Pasadena is so much more than expected! Lisa and Diane’s skillful story telling bring the region’s history to life while guests enjoy some of our best kept culinary secrets! The tour explores the streets of Green, Union, Holly, DeLacey, the avenues of Fair Oaks and Raymond, and Colorado Boulevard in historic Old Pasadena. Colorful alleys and secret thru-ways are revealed as guests visit award-winning ethnic eateries and sweets havens for tastings. Guests will indulge in multiple tastings of world cuisine including Tortas Mexico, Bar Celona (Spanish), Aux Delices Bakery and Café (French), Equator (Asian Fusion), Bird Pick Tea & Herb, Tutti Gelati (authentic gelato), Mezbaan Indian Cuisine, Tibet Nepal House (Himalayan), and Mignon Chocolate (exquisite chocolatier). Additionally, guests enjoy the pleasure of a sensory experience at a handmade soap kitchen.

On June 12th, 2009, the first Pasadena Model United Nations Conference was held at Pasadena City College with Blair IB, Marshall Fundamental and Pasadena High School. Their subject concerned water in the middle east and the issues surrounded by its depletion. Led by Model United Nations Association of Pasadena, Education Without Borders International, Model United Nations Club, a group of high schoolers were problem solvers for the day.

From June 1st through 8th, local foodies and visitors can indulge in the best of Old Pasadena’s award-winning restaurants, and help feed those in need at the first ever Old Pasadena Restaurant Week.  In response to our ongoing economic crisis, over 25 of Old Pasadena’s finest restaurants have joined together to help our less fortunate neighbors.  For eight straight days, diners will savor three gourmet courses at one great price, starting as low as $15, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Union Station Homeless Services.

A diverse array of the area’s most exciting restaurants will offer three course pre-selected meals at a special deal with deluxe dinning at $15 for lunch and $25 for dinner or fine dining at $25 for lunch and $35 for dinner.  Exquisite dishes prepared by the area’s most talented chefs include: redwhite + bluezz’s Berkshire pork raised in Snake River Farms, Idaho, complemented with a creamy blueberry-cambozola bread pudding, baby greens and a port wine finish, Green Street Tavern’s duck panini with caramelized onions, roasted plum and Manchego cheese, Heritage Wine Company’s eggplant cannelloni stuffed with three cheeses, walnuts, tarragon and beet reduction sauce, Sushi Roku’s seared Albacore sashimi with garlic ponzu sauce, Malagueta’s grilled steak served with plantains, salsa campanha, chimichuri sauce and black beans and rice and La Grande Orange’s olive oil savory cake.  A complete list of restaurants and menus are available at oldpasadena.org.

ABOUT UNION STATION HOMELESS SERVICES

In 1973, a group of community volunteers opened Union Station Homeless Services as a simple hospitality center to serve poor and homeless men in downtown Pasadena. Today, Union Station is the San Gabriel Valley’s largest and most comprehensive social service agency assisting homeless and very low-income people.
